The Golden State Warriors (66-14) will host the Utah Jazz (49-31) in the penultimate game of the 2016-17 NBA regular season at the Oracle Arena on Monday. While the Warriors have locked up the No. 1 seed for a third consecutive year, the fifth-seeded Jazz are trying to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs by finishing with a better record than the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers (49-31).
On Saturday evening, Jazz’s chances of securing home court took a big hit after they suffered an untimely defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers while the Clippers pulled off a big road win against the San Antonio Spurs. The Clippers, on the other hand, have won eight of their last 10 games and will take that momentum into Monday’s clash against the Houston Rockets. The Clippers could secure the No. 4 seed with a victory in Houston since their season-finale on Wednesday is against the subpar Sacramento Kings.
The Jazz are dealing with a ton of injuries. While point guard George Hill has missed the last six games with a groin injury, point guard Raul Neto rolled his ankle during Saturday’s game against the Blazers.
The Jazz took a blow early in the second half when Raul Neto, who started the half in Dante Exum’s place, rolled his left ankle and left the game. X-rays were negative. Quin Snyder, coach of the Jazz, said he needs to reassess the injury situation ahead of the postseason. “I don’t know if we’re going to go into the playoffs with three or four guys out, that doesn’t do us any good where we’re seeded, We’ve got to step back and see who is healthy,” said Snyder, via ESPN, after the Jazz suffered a 101-86 loss to the Blazers.
